Helping the Nation Spot and Stop Scammers

The BBC has announced the return of Scam Safe Week, (what a shame it’s not Safe Or Scam Week). Safe Scam Week is a nationwide campaign aimed at helping audiences protect themselves from the growing threat of fraud. Running from 22 to 28 November 2025, the initiative will span television, radio and online platforms, offering practical advice, real-life stories and expert insight into the world of scams.
Building on the success of previous years, the week will see the BBC join forces with major partners including UK Finance, the Take Five to Stop Fraud – Link to Website campaign and other leading fraud-prevention organisations. Together, they aim to expose the latest tactics used by scammers and empower people to take simple steps to stay safe.
“Fraud is now the most common crime in the UK, affecting people from every walk of life,” said a BBC spokesperson. “Scam Safe Week brings together trusted voices to help everyone recognise the warning signs and feel confident in how to respond.”
Across the week, viewers and listeners can expect investigative documentaries, consumer-affairs segments and human-interest features which will shed light on how criminals operate — from sophisticated online impersonation schemes to doorstep deceptions and investment frauds. BBC News, Radio 4’s You and Yours and The One Show are among those expected to carry special reports.
The campaign will also point audiences to a dedicated BBC Scam Safe online hub, where all related content can be accessed in one place. The site offers practical guides on how to verify identities, spot red flags, and report suspicious activity. Meanwhile, partner organisations are providing toolkits, posters and social-media materials to help community groups and local councils spread the message even further.
Scam Safe Week is part of a wider effort across the UK to combat fraud, which costs victims billions each year. According to UK Finance, more than £1 billion was stolen through scams in 2024.
“Awareness is one of our strongest defences,” said a spokesperson for Take Five. “By learning to pause, challenge and protect, people can dramatically reduce their risk of falling victim.”
As technology continues to evolve, the power of vigilance and public education remains vital.
Scam Safe Week 2025 runs from 22 to 28 November across all BBC platforms.
